Purpose

The aim of this programme is to provide students from different health and social care professions an opportunity to harness the diversity of their experience to develop a holistic, interprofessional view of care enabling them to lead and influence care services.

The Interprofessional Health & Social Care Management (IPHSCM) course is a 2 year (PG DIP) or 3 year (MSc) part-time postgraduate course. The Interprofessional nature and ethos of this course meets the needs for promoting and encouraging interprofessional health and social care management and leadership.  The course was introduced in 2008 and is the first and only one of its kind in Northern Ireland.  It highlights the Innovation and Leadership that is synomous with Queens University in collaboration with the HSC Leadership Centre

Learning Outcomes

The first two years of the course are structured as six taught sequential modules.

In Year 1, students focus on enhancing their knowledge and skills through increased self awareness leading to enhanced personal and interprofessional effectiveness. They become familiar with the theory underpinning interprofessional education and work to develop their skills in critically analysing the complexity of interprofessional working within a modern health and social care organisation.

Following from this, students focus on leadership and its multi-faceted nature and develop skills in critically analysing the approaches to managing and adapting to changes including consideration of the opportunities and constraints that influence change in interprofessional settings.

Students progressing on the MSc pathway will enter their dissertation module in 3rd year. Students will have an opportunity to undertake research in their area of choice, in line with course content, and to write and present these findings in a submitted thesis .
